Description:
Something that I'd now like to contribute to CC2, if they'll have me. I figured I'd better show screenshots because I've never actually released a map or anything before...
There was going to be this whole plotline about the UAC setting up an underground base to process - gods this is so stupid - "elixir water from the Fountain Of Youth" to "give their soldiers super strength". Predictably, they screw it up and produce hordes of zombies instead. It's utter nonsense which I dreamed up one time when I hadn't had enough sleep.
tldr: just look at the screens and tell me they suck and lack detail okay
screenies don't look too bad, I like the second one, but they do need a little more detail, but probably not as much as you might think
I think it's, for you, more important to focus on finishing the map and releasing it, rather than spend countless of hours on implementing huge amounts of detail. It's a good idea to show screenshots, like you said. This way you will get some approval of what you're doing and that will give you a boost of encouragement and motive for actually finishing the map and releasing it. As for the screenshots in question: It doesn't look bad. The mood seems to be set and I really like the usage of the good old Doom2 textures. Keep up the good work! :)
This map looks pretty interesting, and the idea behind it is cool, if cheesy :P It does look a little brown though but I still like it.
Those pillars in the second screenshot could do with a bit of fixing up. Other than that, it's not that bad at all. I like the darkness level in the screenshots.
Dull to look at, but since the map takes place underground you could liven it up with lots of lava, stone caverns etc. Remember to make the lava sectors maximum brightness. This looks brilliant, especially when the lava flows through a dark room. Think about the Northern Crater in Final Fantasy 7. You need to place some emphasis on claustrophobia. Ensure the player never knows what's around the corner. (In my experience, players tire very quickly of dark, brown maps, so you need to keep them on their toes.)
