Description:
This represents my launch back into Doom editing. Although this map is intended to be enjoyable and "complete" in all respects (e.g. playable) it's really more of a testing, experimenting, and (re)learning everything I've forgotten in the last several years. I'm using Doombuilder (instead of DETH), and finding that it's a wonderful tool.
Communication has been lost at an outpost at the base of a secluded and forgotten cavern. It's thought that remnants of the hellspawn unleashed upon the Earth several years ago are responsible. A small force of soldiers were dispatched and we've lost contact with them. The UAC has called upon you to investigate, shut down the generators, and look for survivors.
Without anyone to maintain the generators, they could meltdown and bring unwanted attention to the secluded area. Get in. Complete the objective, and get out. You'll be teleported in on the TPN (Teleportation and Particle Network) to avoid lenghty traditional travel. There is an exit terminal at the Outpost. Use it to egress the area back to HQ.
omg tolwyn is back.. map looks interesting, i like the sky. the theme's a bit erratic for my taste but we'll see how how this turns out :)
There's a few things that I know I'm going to need to work on with some experience. Texture/Themes has always been a weak point for me. On my list of "needs work" is also monster caches, item placement, skill level considerations, etc.
The main thing I'm focusing on is architecture and learning Doom Builder.
Layout is number one on the list and scale considerations. I tend to think "floor plan" too much, and this level suffers from that as well, but I know that this will not be a "strong" map in that sense. It will get better.
Another weak area for me is outside areas mixed with "buildings." I've seen some really good use of differing ceiling heights and the f_sky* that was amazing, making sure the player couldn't see a taller area from a shorter area (ruining the effect).
The sky is the JDoom Environment Pack for Doomsday. It's an actual sky box. I hope no one thought that misleading. I have it load automatically, and didn't think about when taking screenshots.

i can tell u took those screen shots with jdoom i REALLY like the sky texture and the level
Looks nice, I like the second pic a lot. I'm glad the sky isn't in the wad - it really doesn't fit in with the level IMO.
Yeah. To be honest, I rarely think about skies much. I've since forgotten how to create "vanilla Doom" skys (what the format and length is); and with the skybox that JDoom allows, I can pretty much get any sky I want. Hence, I figure the end-user does too. :)
The secound screenies looks really nice.
Mhm, looks a bit quakeish to me. But that's good. Highly detailed. Like that too. Nice to see some standard (default textures and such) but high quality work again.
Will there be original music?
Please?
No music this time.
My recording studio is packed up until I buy a house. Sorry, all.
:)
So, where to get this great looking wad?
archive.3dgamers.com or .org or something. :)

Waita minute.. This was released long time ago. Why is it updated :?
I love the level layout. The Big rooms are very nice, it makes the map feel very epic. Oh and the sky is very nice.
