Description:
Vile Flesh is a full 32 level replacement for Doom2 made by Gwyn Williams and released on 24/05/04 (you can have it at DLW).
I gave the approval from Gwyn to implement Legacy features (3D bridges, 3D floors, 3D water, colored sectors, OpenGl lightings, etc... And Fraggle scripting for the 6 last maps) and Boom features (scrolling ceilings, ice floors, wind, etc...)
The first screenshot was a transparent 3D elevator, near 3D water colored in light blue under the surface. I replaced it with a shot from Map21, with OpenGl dynamic lightings (I finally figured out how to obtain such lightings!!!), and here is a quaked room... (Map17)
The second one was a transparent 3D floor with 3 different superposed textures and a solid floor for objects and monsters. I replaced it with a shot from Map12 (August 11, 2004), and here are 3D chairs and a cristal table with suspended candles (Map24).
The last one was about the power of Legacy with superposed 3D floors and a scrolling side. Then a red bridge (Map19), a lasers area (Map25), and now a fire area (Map26)...
I'm torturing me the meninges to develop a fragglescript, and I'm lost in the meanders of the “if”, “elseif”, “else”... This to explain that I'm for the moment at the died point, but that I don't continue any less to work.
I won!!! The script is now efficient for Map24, and you can see on the second screenshot a viewpoint from the camera!!!
here are new screenshots: http://tinyurl.com/3spku
Development achieved... Currently tested by Gwyn Williams...
Release: December 25th, 2004
I don't know why more people have been posting at this one... It looks AWESOME!!! Can't wait to see it...
Looks great. Keep up the good work.
AWESOME!!! And also because it's hard to use blue colors in Doom, due to the palette. Jive is the master of the Doom Legacy port!
Daniel, one of the Legacy code is "282" to define a new colormap, with hexadecimal code for the texture of the linedef, which means that you can define as many colors as you imagination want it. About the blue color of the third screenshot, it's an OpenGl dynamic lighting, extracted thankfully to Dehacked from the plasma gun. In fact, it's an invisible object (its texture is transparent). I used such a trick to obtain the yellow color of the new first screenshot, after hours passed to study the story of the "frames".
Yes, indeed, Carmack and Romero are pure genius!!!
... and Hurdler (Thierry Van Elsuwé), the coder of the OpenGl engine for Doom Legacy, another one!
Would these shots be as impressive without the colourful lighting? is the question
If I took the time to do all this hard work, it's not for nothing, at least not only to show beautiful lightings and all the other Legacy specific features...
I'm doing it since one month (full time) because I think that this megawad should be considered as one of the best megawad ever done!!!
For now, I worked more than several thousand of hours on it.
I hope that it's not for my own eyes...
I posted on my MSN group new screenshots with other great features, like the use of semi transparent textures on moving platforms and doors (I made myself the discover of those tricks after many hours of bad attempts):

nice, chairs, how'd you do it, and you single handidly saved legacy

The answer is 'no'.

The entire purpose of this wad is to 'update' it for legacy, which means adding the colours and 3d effects. The original doom2 wad, void of colour etc, can still be found.
Frades, your point is so childish that I prefer to close my mouth... Plus, you talk about something which is totally unknown by you, so.... Don't talk so negatively about unkown things, because this place IS NOT the place for such comments!!! The latest screenshot about the cristal table and his chairs is there to close your own mouth...
And I don't talk of this one: http://tinyurl.com/4ea9v

If you read my post really carefully, you may actually notice that i quoted someone asking a question and answered him. I don't see any bashing here. Also, notice the word combination "as impressive" in the quoted post. That's why my answer is such as it was. Instead of searching for 'bashing' from where it doesn't exist, go work on the map.
Frades-have You notice that these maps are for LEGACY?
Why in the world would Jive regret from using it's special features to enhance his maps when this port is capable of doing so?
Of course. I see no problem if people use dynlights and other various features a source port has to offer. I do that a lot myself too. And again, i just answered a question. It is quite clear that it would look a bit different if all the special lights were turned off. Even my own maps wouldn't look "as impressive without the colourful lighting". That doesn't necessarily mean a map has to suck when the lighting effects are turned off.
Just a question: why has this all of a sudden been listed as 'other' in game mode? When I first posted it was in single player. Just wondering. BTW, this just keeps looking better and better! Keep it up!
It's as "other" in "game mode" because Gwyn made the necessary to allow deathmatch, multiplayers and cooperative!!! Of course, "single player" is THE mode to play it, but it's not the only one available.
Frades, next time: think before talking!
Shot #2 needs some detail, the walls seem quite bare. The other screenshots are great, especially #1.
Why is there a blue flare above the chair (feel like rhyming?) in shot numero duo? :|
nmn and Ixnatifual, the light is nothing else than the spirit of the invisible chief of a 7 members Brotherhood using this room as a base for their secret activity. It take place in the City Center, where you'll have to defeat the enemies of the 8 invisible Masters...
O_o I'm digging that, what an original idea. Keep up the work.
I want to make sweet love to your chairs
Nice work man, More Better than My Delta (Design Wise) Keep up the good work. But Make sure you add somthing we can Point our guns at Ya know
Change the text in screenshot 2 to say "Are you afraid? You should be!!"
Anyway, it looks good, and I agree it wouldn't look as good without the lighting, try and add some more detail in some areas even with the fancy lighting.
last thing about the chairs, how did you get the lost souls in them, i tried to put health bouses in a book self in legicy but its not good so far
This isn't the place for such questions, n00b.
shut up, im a noob in legicy
No troll, it is You who need to shut up instead of blatant asking questions on a forum not meant for this. You admit You're a n00b, n00bs will be laughed at and get over it. You can do a lot of things to change that, but appearently You can't switch Your brain on. Be a n00b and die like the n00b, heh.
EDIT:
Long before You entered the community I've known Legacy and it's features, so show respect.
ok ok,this is not the place for fighting, but i have to say that wall texture in shot 3 on the left dosen't look good on that corner
heh done by christmas, good present

If I remember correctly (which I probably don't), you have to spawn it with a script, or something. But then again, I haven't mapped for Legacy in nearly two years, so I'm probably wrong.
I'll release also a special Pwad using a lot of tricks, so that authors will be able to study it and to reuse for their own wads. It's already done, but I need to create an entry at DLW. Will be ready for Christmas, perhaps...
>I don't know why more people have been posting at this one... It looks AWESOME!!! Can't wait to see it...
(I think it reads "why not more people"...) -- because many Doomers claim to think that Legacy crashes a lot (or at least, crashed a lot) and thus is terribly unrealiable for them. So they avoid it.
If it's released then where is the download link??????
Sorry!
DOWNLOAD IT!
This link was updated on March 01, 2006.
Vile Flesh is now hosted on DoomWadStation.com, where has moved Doom Legacy Wads.

Doom Legacy Wads has moved from Newdoom to DoomWadStation. Now, the zip files are hosted on the same server than the site itself, with a very good bandwidth, which means that you will no more wait a long time for your downloads, particulary for Vile Flesh. Many thanks to Bob Larkin, the owner of DWS, my host (and friend since a very long time)
Download it now! (url updated on March 01, 2006)
This Wad is just beautiful!!! RESPECT! ;)
