Description:

Ok, my last map. A new shiny dark temple/cathedral with big halls and brown bricks dumped for black stuff with the usual bells and whistles in the form of legacy features. The detail is going to keep pouring into this bit so it will look better and I hope to start working my way inside soon and get some more stuff out to you. Screen #3 is my newest screenshot. Any comments on how to improve it will be welcomed.

looks a little barren right now, but i'm sure those details you mention will spice it up. the black version of the brick looks great.

Whoo! ...sorry, i just like the Gothic textures ;)
Will it be Extra-Sinister, or just moderately sinister?

Doom_Dude writes:(new) 12.06.2004, 19:40 GMT+1

Looking good there Ninja. That sky is pretty danged cool methinks.

Nmn writes:(new) 12.06.2004, 20:10 GMT+1

The sky is made by Jive, right? Pretty cool atmosphere, very sinister (damn, those poor soldiers) Since this is legacy, maybe try to make the upper part of the wall of the fence (above those spikes) shorter than the wall of the building(with 3d floors)? Something would be good to break repetivness of grey bricks, i.e. metal, wood, like a bloody fountain in the middle, or a pole with some more hanged men.

Looks excellent....mainly I like that red sky too. I'm looking foward to this map.

I'm already getting some fancy metal stuff put up inside. I'm trying to keep away from over use of grey by putting up some altars in the front hall, rugs, candles and wood/metal pillars with some blood stuffage thrown in for good measure. I don't know about music, I found one track so far that fits okay but all the doomworld stuff is for techno maps so it doesn't work here. And MoP will be pleased with the new screens of the courtyard. I'll get some screens of the interior up as soon as I can. I plan to have a sort of underhalls area underneath the floor using some silent teleport stuff and 3D floors to create the iluusion just right. I take inspiration from torment and torture mostly becasue I just love the dark stuff. And all compliments to Jive for his beatiful sky which I have used before BTW. If you guys played my wads you'd know.;) I tried your suggestiona bout the wall Nmn but I cna't do it with 3D floors because the sector has to be 128 tall. If I put want to put a 3d floor in then i have to remove that top part but that means making the gap in the middle bigger which means I need a bigger bar texture which I don't have.

Looks good. Especially the second and third pictures... I've always loved hellish maps.

Ninja_of_DooM writes:(new) 16.06.2004, 23:46 GMT+1

So anyway. Work continues. The second screenshot is my newest piece and looks pretty good so far. Anyone else?

Nmn writes:(new) 17.06.2004, 00:39 GMT+1

Looks very good so far. I'm looking forward. Maybe try adding some candles in walls' cutouts on the walls of the sides of the hall. Screen 1 looks excellent. Only the ceiling bothers me. Even a smallest bit of trim to brake the bricks, or a skylight will do good.
Yeah, looks pretty good.

Ninja_of_DooM writes:(new) 17.06.2004, 10:34 GMT+1

OK. Note taken on the skylights. I paln to put alvoves in for candles already it's just that I need to see how much space I have left after I've built the rooms into the sides of the corridor. BTW, can anyone point me in the direction of a good midi resource?

iori writes:(new) 17.06.2004, 18:11 GMT+1

Using a bit of FS you could make the candle corona's smaller, which I think would make them less distracting. The atmosphere is awesome, I look forward to this map.

Nmn writes:(new) 17.06.2004, 18:18 GMT+1

Why my advices turned out great. It looks awesome. Quick show us the undetailed parts so we can suggest some more :-D
Good midi resource? That depends on what midis You want to use. I presume a sinister one and stuff? My propositions for midis for this level:
1.One of Fanatic's Midis (easily recognizable and heavy) (can be found in Gothic 2)
2.UDoom E2M4
3.Heretic E1M4

Ninja_of_DooM writes:(new) 17.06.2004, 23:12 GMT+1

I cna change the corona size in the Legacy options menu Iori so that's no problem at all. I'll look into Gothic II in the meantime and hopefully prcure a good midi from it. I got shareware Heretic so I can get that midi as well as DooM E2M4. No new parts or you yet NMN, my mapping's been pretty slow due to the fact I can't be bothered to lift pencil to paper for ideas. Hopefully soon. But when you see the next bit you're advice will be greatly appreciated.:-)

So it's A grudge match between Legacy and ZDOOM huh? Nah. One good ZDOOM castle and one for Legacy will do. Yours looks good btw. New screens up soon.
