Description:

Slime pit (toxdm1.wad) is gonna be a small deathmatch map. Primarily designed with 1v1 in mind, but I expect it'll support 4 players without too much overcrowding.

The idea behind the map was to use Legacy's sector-over-sector feature to create a highly unusual twist on Doom DM - gameplay which takes place primarily on the vertical axis. I'm basing the map off of an old Q2 map I never completed long ago, with adaptations to Doom's speed and scale. The other unusual thing about the map will be that it has none of the power weapons - hopefully balancing gameplay a little more and shifting more emphasis onto item and level control.

Wow.. now that is really kicken looking!! Whats that green thing in shot 3? I like the idea of it not having the power weapions.. one gets tierd of someone grabing the plasmagun and just stand there fireing off randomly.. or geting the bfg and just randomly shoting at walls..

toxfluff writes:(new) 16.04.2004, 16:46 GMT+1

Heh, thanks Ki. The green thing is a teleporter.

Ki writes:(new) 16.04.2004, 16:58 GMT+1

You are the master of kicken looking wads! Even I wanna DM on it.. and I don't even like DMing! ^.^;;;

The first and third shots remind me a lot of one of the Half Life Xen maps.

toxfluff writes:(new) 16.04.2004, 17:36 GMT+1

SargeBaldy: "The first and third shots remind me a lot of one of the Half Life Xen maps" Christ.... that's not good. I hated the Xen levels. The teleporter I can understand, but the first shot? Gulp. I was expecting more accusations of ripping off DM4.

I dunno Tox, doesnt look too fun. I think ill give this one a miss. :P

Seriously folks, this is one good wad with great connectivity and item balance (a wad where the chaingun can be used and not be overshadowed).

That looks awesome. What texture set are you using?

Sock's Tech1 set.

Agent Spork writes:(new) 16.04.2004, 20:55 GMT+1

Looks nice. Better than anything I've ever made for Legacy.

I like those textures also.

Curunir writes:(new) 16.04.2004, 21:29 GMT+1

Well, this is a Legacy map that looks good. Something I didn't really expect to see anytime soon :) No bashing intended, people just seemed to use Legacy's features in a very mock2.wad kind of way. But what I see here, I like. Make sure you finish this one and get it out!

Jow writes:(new) 16.04.2004, 21:45 GMT+1

F**king cool! You sure know how to make cool maps! ;D

pretty damn cool, nice textures

That's one kick-ass-looking teleporter. Is that thing animated? Nice screenshots Mr Toxic. :)

Ki writes:(new) 17.04.2004, 10:10 GMT+1

Sock's Tech1 set? Where that at? It looks cool.

geedougg writes:(new) 17.04.2004, 20:08 GMT+1

Oh my goodness! *drools-uncontrollably* This reminds me of "Half-Life" and "Jedi Knight: Mysteries Of The Sith" somehow. Very good looking. too bad I can't run Legacy in GL or this would be an orgasmic WAD to play by the looks of it. Amazing work as always, Toxfluff. I'm gonna go get a napkin to wipe off all the drool....

ravage writes:(new) 19.04.2004, 01:11 GMT+1

Heh, you swiped textures from Cube.

Haha yeah, I noticed this when playing on a cube coopedit server yesterday. Cube rules for having the coop edit actually, although once I disconnected I couldn't get the updated version of the map. They make up the deep underground part of Rust too. A good set, and it converts very well to the Doom palette.

Toxic: Quite nice. Where the hell were you when I made Nimrod? :p Your Rust and this maps screenshots looking really good. Although your Rust shots look quite a bit better. Looking forward to them both.

Yet ANOTHER reason to download Legacy...
Those snaps look awesome, brilliant design.
As soon as I get cable I'm DMing in this!

deathbringer writes:(new) 21.08.2004, 22:52 GMT+1

Seeing as everyone else is giving comparisons, the first shot makes me think of doom 3. Imgaine if legacy had crouching, you could hide some items under those 3D floors and people could crawl under and get them

dethtoll writes:(new) 16.11.2004, 21:38 GMT+1

wow, nice. kind of an old rusted base look. if i gave three shits about legacy i'd play this.

wadaholic writes:(new) 17.11.2004, 04:14 GMT+1

I like that teleporter. This is some of the best map design ive seen in a Legacy wad for a long time.

Overlord X writes:(new) 17.11.2004, 18:22 GMT+1

Looks like a nice map. A couple random thoughts...

Nice tech theme, reminds me of quake. I use the tech theme alot myself.

The first shot looks kind of plain, but shot 2 and 3 look nice.

Shot 1 and 2 look a little dark. While darkness is good and adds to the atmosphere/environment, too much of it can be annoying, especially in DM, so I usually go sparingly on dark rooms.

What is that thing in the third screen, some type of sick bfg shot? Looks sweet.

Somebody said it right when they said that not often do mappers make good use of legacy's editing features. I think part of the reason to blame is because Doom was designed as more of a 2D game, and throwing it into the 3D environment is...awkward.

I'll have to download that map and play it later. I haven't played a good single DM map in a while. I admit Legacy is not my favorite port...in fact, I rarely use it anymore.

Nick_Perrin writes:(new) 18.11.2004, 03:21 GMT+1

Nicely done. It's really the textures that make it look so good. If you had to build that same map using normal doom textures, it would definitely not look so good. So good texture choice and level design.
