Description:
Here's some early shots of my sequel to Neith. The new textures seen here were created by NiGHTMARE, as included in his 5th episode texture set.
May 27: Replaced the second shot to show how that room looks now.. the old shot was ugly and bugging me :P I'm not planning on showing anything new on this map before release, don't want to spoil anything :)
January 24: Released, although I gave up on vanilla compatibility, more because I'm sick of looking at this map than because it's so prone to VPOs or sidedef overflow. I may update later, but for now I just want to be done with this.
The title is very punney. As for the shots, very impressive :) I take it this is vanilla as well? Keep up the nice work, shot #1 is definetly my favourite.
Looks very cool, I'm glad you took up my suggestion :)
zarkyb, I'm not even a bit surprised. The first shot must be a favourite :P
Sarge - I loved the first "Neith" so I can't wait for the sequel!
NiGHTMARE - Amazing title idea!! :)
Damn, this really looks like it's going to be a good one. I especially like the brick handiwork in #1, and I like that light structure in #3.
I'll have to play the other so I get an idea of what is to come.
Goob Jod!
Now that I fixed the damned gamma setting on my monitor I can actually see that 'brick handiwork' EarthQuake mentioned. Looks cool SargeBaldy.
Is SargeBaldy still alive? :p
Yes! I was making good progress on this earlier but was on vacation from the 18th to 24th and didn't have my computer at home to do anything since. Now I have classes again but still I figure I can start beta-testing and wrapping this up within a month (assuming VPO cleanup and sidedef removal go smoothly). The map's pretty big, not big enough to justify taking over a year on it, but so far there's 10k+ linedefs, 16k+ sides, nearly 2M in filesize, so it's at least double the size of its prequel, probably closer to 3 times the size by the time it's done. Even how it is now without monsters in a lot of areas it takes me more than 10 minutes to play through. And I haven't revealed anything past the very beginning of the map so nothing's been spoiled. So there you have it.
I first read this title as "Under Keith" and thought, "-kinky".
Very nice level Baldy. Looks and feels very 'classic', and does it better than most other wads I can remember (at least from recent memory). I wish more maps these days were as non-linear too.
My only slight quibble is the ammo balance. Bit too tight for my liking. I found myself fisting barons and various others at some points (and if I hadn't found the first plasma gun secret I'd have been much worse off). I guess maybe I was supposed to fist/chainsaw some of the demons, but personally I don't think you should ever force the player to do that (and I don't think it helps the 'classic' feel either). I also wasn't aware that the teleporter by that first plasma gun secret was a teleporter for a while, and found myself stuck for a bit :oP
Other than that it's very nice. Are those new door textures your own? I don't recognise them from Nightmare's texture packs and I'd veyr much like to use them in the future.
The black ones? Yeah, I made those for Neith, feel free to use them however you'd like as long as you give credit. I was always OK for ammo and even added a bit more due to some complaints from the testers, but I guess how I play it I punch out all the demons and spectres. I'll add some more for a rerelease though and make the teleport more obvious.
Well I just played it. It was pretty easy, except the cyber battle at the end was a little tense. I don't think the music fit the map much .. something more creepy and evil would have been better. Overall it was good, but still too easy for me :p
I had no problem with ammo .. at the end I had 283 bullets, 82 shells and 240 cells. Of course I was doing stupid crap like punching out entire rooms full of imps .. :P
I love Baldy's classic style, and this map is just right. I wasn't short on ammo, but you must conserve and make well-placed shots. Don't overlook this one!
