=====->14/Nov/2008-------------After a bunch of time without news, I have some relevant changes for this project (still alive):- The main game feeling will be as a Quake 1 base (ExM1 level).- I will be not using MD2 models- Lots of new ambience sounds, sounds sequences for doors/lifts, etc...- Intensive use of Dinamic and Static Lights- Full and coherent map story. All the game will have a related history that you will have to discover by yourself.New screenshots for the current work in progress.-> 11/May/2008---------------The map is taking a bit more time than I though. The job and other family issues don't let me to finish the map.But I'm completing the map slowly. No worryes, this is not a forgotten project. Thanks for your comprehension. :-)-> 08/February/2008--------------------A week ago, a disaster makes the map to stay corrupted, so i had to start again the work of the two last weeks. But now i have nearly recovery the whole progress.I had in mind to release the map this week, but now it will be impossible. At now, i have some new ideas, that im now implementing, for example, polyobjects, MD2 Models for static decoration (lamps, tress or something like that), and maybe, Rain effect for exterior places. There are no screenies for those effects, since they are not fully implemented.Fimally, the map will run -ONLY- using Vavoom actual last version (1.26), cause many effects and construction trics will make use of this version's enhancements, same as of Boom effects implemented only at this version.Another bad new is that only "powerfull" computers will be able to play ok, cause many places makes use of intensive static/dynamic lightning, so slow computers may get less tha 10 Frames per second.Description===========Remake of a friend's map constructed for Doom(2).exe many years ago. This map pretends now to be a kind of survival horror, with a very inmersive ambience.Im using Vavoom 1.26 (very last version), cause this map uses many of the new features: new ambient sounds, dynamic lightning, some Boom features, Decorate modifications, and some more.New music included, althouhgt it will be optional.
The lighting is breathtaking, especially in shot 1. Remove the Doom HUD and it wouldn't even look like Doom, wowness! XD
Looking good, I really like the dark ambient feel of it. If you get the balance of light and dark areas right and don't put in too many monsters, it'll be really creepy. ánimo!
I will change the Doom HUD icons for other more appropiated, and maybe the numbers too.
I have think about that just 5 minutes before read your comment. :P
But those images are arround 1 week ago.
When i have more time, i will upload new images.
And thanks for comment :-)
Atmosphere, done right. This is what I like to see in a map (among other things, but atmosphere is a big one!). As it was said above, get that balance of light and dark right with not too many monsters!
Since this is a computing station, will we be seeing some interesting nad unconventional puzzles in the map?
@ Nick_Perrin: This is a remake from a friend's map, so the playability will be *nearly* the same.
I have not included extremely hard puzzles. I hate that kind of maps, where we must look for a hidden button.
I have added some "uncommon" puzzles, bit nothing really hard.
At now, i will upload new screenies and some news.
Just waiting for admins to end the process.
Stay tunned. :-)
Interesting style. Take backups of your maps regularly in the future to avoid having to start all over again :)
Looks cool. I LOVE the atmosphere, especially in shot 2. Shot 3 reminds me a bit of Quake 2.
Sorry to hear that your work was corrupted. As Ixnatifual said, backups are key. Keep up the work though, it's looking great. :)
Looks awesome, keep going man.
Thanks for comments.
But you all must wait a bit more for this project to complete, since some "real-life" matters take all my time.
I will be building the map slower than before, but i will try to complete as soon as i can.
Thanks all for your attention.
Salutes.
you should make A sort of a Quake 2ish sort of mod for vavoom that would be cool
@ joe2: I was thinking about a parcial conversion using the whole power of Vavoom engine features, making use of 3D MD2 or MDL models for all sprites, some Decorate, scripting, etc... And all will remember Quake 2 buildings, except the ambience, that will be like Star Trek.
Maybe a 3 or 4 level mini-episode, where the player will run through a planet, the Enterprise Spaceship, a Klingon Spaceship and a Borg Cube Ship.
I have also another idea: build a TC about Megaman ZX.
But all that is only an idea. I need to finish this map first. :-P
PROJECT FINISHED!!!!
--------------------
For any reason, the project WIP sheet has not been updated, and it does not allow me to update (it says the update is in progress, but it tolds that since december)
Visit the next link for screens, news, downloads, project homepage und all that stuff:

Its highly recommended to use Vavoom 1.28 or higher. It works also on 1.26 but you will get a lower framerate.
For any comment, you can use this same WIP thread or the Vavoom project tread.
Enjoy, and thanks for your attention. :-)
